MDX Record Standardization and MPI

An independently owned, Fortune 500 biotechnology company specializing in drugs for neurological disorders, autoimmune disorders, and cancer. This company is a leader in in the effort to slow the progression of serious medical conditions.

Due to the complexity of the diseases they treat, the company needed a way to efficiently track patient outcomes, including when patients switch to competitors. They also needed to know how many patients they treat overall. To this end, they sought to implement a Master Patient Identifier (MPI) which would be present throughout all necessary systems.

For an example of the complexity the company faced, consider the treatment for a patient with a debilitating degenerative disease: as the patient moves through their treatment plan, many different organizations—and thus many different databases—handle their data. Their primary care physician, their insurance company, multiple specialty pharmacies, and third party supply management companies (also known as ‘hubs’) all work with the patient at different points in the process. Therefore, it is difficult for the company to obtain a complete view of the patient’s treatment and outcome. Tracking the patient’s journey is key to the success of the company and the patient.

Gaine works with LiquidHub, an award-winning digital integrator, to provide the company with patient record deduplication and standardization. MDX relies on a set of rules that compare IDs across systems and leverage existing demographic data to fill in missing data attributes. Gaine also gives these records an MPI.

Soon after the Gaine/LiquidHub platform was deployed, the company launched a new drug therapy. This launch proved to be one of the most successful in the company’s history.

The company now has greatly improved visibility of their patient outcomes, demographics, and volume.

MDX Hub for Patient Master File

A Fortune 500 biotechnology company specializing in drugs for neurological disorders, autoimmune disorders, and cancer.

The company needed to develop capabilities to analyse patient treatment outcomes and predict future prognoses. They struggled to relate data from different internal and external sources for patient care and treatment results. This reduced healthcare providers' ability to timely intervene with several major conditions and inhibited new or proven treatments. This also hindered the effectiveness of the physicians responsible for care and research.

LiquidHub, a preferred implementation partner with Gaine, implemented an analytics platform that integrates patient related data from all available sources using MDX to build a Patient Master file.

Benefits Executive dashboards and online analytic reports allow doctors and other caregivers to quickly analyse data and make decisions based on the efficacy of treatments across the selected population. Researchers and external partners are given access to analytical data and results, thus building a comprehensive view of patient outcomes and treatment methods for a variety of diseases and illnesses.

MDX Customer Hub Reduces Operational Costs by Millions Each Year

A leading manufacturer of medical diagnostic and therapeutic devices with manufacturing, sales, and distribution facilities located in 26 different countries.

The company receives more than 250,000 sales trace records from its distributors each month. The sales trace records are used to calculate GPO rebates and sales commissions, and they form the basis of all sales and marketing analytics. In order to process these sales trace records the company has to link customer information in the distributor records to the company's operational systems for billing, GPO rebates, CRM, BI, and sales compensation.

To add to the complexity, each business process has its own unique set of requirements for integrating the trace information and classifying the customer demographics for key attributes, such as class of trade.

MDX integrates sales trace records with external reference databases to create a complete view of the sales activity at a ship-to, bill-to, and customer level. MDX then provides bi-directional interfaces to various operational applications including rebate processing, sales compensation, ERP billing and shipping, customer service, and business intelligence.

MDX also provides data governance workflows to resolve a variety of data problems, such as incorrect class of trade designation, missing demographic information, or potential duplicate records.

Benefits The MDX Hub is a central element of a sales trace re-engineering project that has reduced operational costs by several million dollars each year.

“We needed to move quickly to meet the CMS reporting deadlines. With MDX we were able to achieve the necessary data standards without any impact on our existing systems and processes despite tripling the size of our Provider database during this time.”
- Chief Administrative Officer, Sterling
